You can almost feel the adrenaline rush through your veins the moment the iconic opening “Bennie and the Jets” chord plays. Paramount Pictures released the first teaser trailer for the Elton John bio pic Rocketman on Monday (Oct. 1) and it finds star Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Golden Circle) decked out in giant glasses, colorful blazers and flashy costumes.

The dramatic, minute-long trailer begins with a montage of glimpses into John’s life: he stands in the middle of a fan-filled stadium; a boy runs through a square of dancing men; and producers watch as Elton performs in a studio. “There are moments in a rockstar’s life that define who he is,” Egerton narrates over the collection of moments.

As “Bennie and the Jets” picks up in the background, more scenes unfold filled with dancing women, elaborate locations and a young John dealing with career struggles. We get a glimpse of Egerton performing as Elton when he leads with the chorus of “Rocketman.” The whimsical '70s-esque collage continues, and the trailer concludes with Elton hammering out the song on a piano as he and his fans float into the air in a trippy scene that hints at the movie's artful take on John's epic life.

Rocketman has been pitched as a musical fantasy story about Elton John's early years in the music business, charting his rise from his studies at the Royal Academy of Music through his struggles with drug addiction and into international fame. In addition to Egerton, Jamie Bell, Gemma Jones, Bryce Dallas Howard and Richard Madden are also starring. Dexter Fletcher (Eddie The Eagle) is directing and John and David Furnish are producing under their Rocket Pictures banner. Matthew Vaughn, who worked with Egerton on the Kingsman films, is also producing.

Paramount Picture’s Rocketman launches into theaters on May 31, 2019. Watch the teaser trailer below.
