Last summer, folk singer-songwriter John Craigie joined Jack Johnson for 11 dates on the 2017 leg of his All the Light Above It Too World Tour, during which the two teamed up for a song of Craigie's called "I Wrote. Mr. Tambourine Man." A year later, the pair are officially releasing their live duet, saving the Earth at the same time. Billboard has an exclusive first listen today (Sept. 27).

The live version of "I Wrote Mr. Tambourine Man" was recorded at The Greek Theatre in Berkeley, California, on July 26, 2017, and proceeds from the track will go to Johnson's All At Once charity, a social action network to help fans make a positive change in their local and world communities. But while the track now has a philanthropic purpose, Craigie deemed his onstage moment "one of the most surreal moments of my career" long before its official release.

"Jack and I started performing this song from the very first show we did together -- it was his idea," Craigie, who's known for his storytelling during shows, recalls. "I noticed that he is very good about bringing the openers out during his set, but usually it’s a collaboration on a cover or one of his songs. So when he suggested doing a Craigie tune, I thought that there was no way. But sure enough, when it was time for him to go on, he handed me the set list with my song on there."

Johnson equally loved getting to share the stage with Craigie, whom he personally picked as an opener after using the singer's live LP Capricorn in Retrograde… Just Kidding… Live in Portland to soundtrack a California coastal road trip. "I love touring with John Craigie," Johnson adds. "He shows up with a guitar and a backpack, and is ready to crash on any couch. I hope this version of 'I Wrote Mr. Tamborine Man' captures even a fraction of the fun that we have on tour together!”

Craigie joined Johnson on two dates of the 2018 continuation of the All the Light Above It Too World Tour this summer, and now the Los Angeles native is bringing the good vibes into a tour of his own. Craigie is kicking off the #KeepItWarm2018 Tour in November, with each date of the 19-city trek partnering with local groups that support the homeless in their community. One dollar from each ticket sold will go to a local nonprofit, and there will be volunteers at each show collecting jackets, gloves, sleeping bags and other supplies from fans.

“I got to see how Jack was able to use his music to entertain as well as spread a good message and get people to help out," Craigie says of the tour's charitable inspiration. "I saw how his fans wanted to pitch in and we're grateful to have guidance in how to do that.”
