On Tuesday (Sept. 18), Cat Power released a new rendition of Rihanna's 2012 hit "Stay," retaining the song's captivating melody for the mesmerizing new take.

In a press release, Cat Power, aka Chan Marshall, explained her decision to include the Rihanna cover on her upcoming album, Wanderer. “I love the tradition of covering songs," Marshall says. "I think it’s one of the highest compliments you can pay another artist. It's one of the great traditions in American music and one of the true pleasures of music history."

Below, Cat Power pairs her piano skills and sultry voice in a stunning performance of “Stay,” filmed at the Los Angeles studio of producer Rob Schnapf (Elliott Smith, Beck).

“Stay” is the third song to be unveiled from Cat Power's forthcoming new album Wanderer, due Oct. 5 via Domino, and follows the lead single “Woman,” featuring Lana Del Rey. Cat Power will tour internationally in support of the album, starting Sept. 25 in Berkeley, California.

The original "Stay," featuring Mikky Ekko, peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 back in 2013.

Wanderer is available to pre-order now, including a limited pressing of baby-blue vinyl with exclusive 7-inch, CD and digital download.
