On Monday (Aug. 27), German indie pop duo Haerts announced New Compassion -- the follow-up album to their 2014 self-titled debut.

The sophomore album -- which will drop Oct. 5 via Arts and Crafts -- started out as a therapeutic way for the band to recover from a loss, focusing on themes like transformation, unwavering persistence and unique perspectives on love.

According to a press release announcing the album, Haerts experienced some hardships following the split from their previous label, Columbia Records, and sought out isolation in the Hudson Valley to find themselves as a band and create something new and freely created.
