Ruel Unveils Emotional Short Film For 'Younger': Exclusive

Ruel

Ruel takes it back to the not-so-distant past in the video for his single “Younger,” premiering exclusively on Billboard today (Aug. 2).

The 15-year old Australian singer-songwriter takes on the lead role in a short film directed by visual artist and three-time collaborator Grey Ghost. It depicts a friendship on the rocks that takes a turn for the worst after fateful physical altercation, and complements an already-impactful tune while subverting to the song’s narrative in a satisfying twist.

"This song is very important to me, from the time I finished the session I really felt like I’d made something special,” Ruel tells Billboard. “The storyline in the 'Younger' video isn't a direct reinterpretation of the lyrics -- so instead of it being about you and your mate choosing different paths over time, it’s about choosing your own path.”

Though “Younger” shows Ruel taking his time to look through the past, he is clearly moving forward on his way to becoming all grown-up.

Ruel’s latest EP Ready dropped June 15 via RCA Records and is available now here. The “Don’t Tell Me” singer is also set to embark on his first North American tour (dates below) starting next month. Tickets are available this Friday (Aug. 3) on his website here
