Toronto duo The Darcys are back with their first song in over two years; "Just Here With My Friends," featuring Leah Fay of July Talk, is an upbeat track that you'll easily find room for on your summer soundtrack.

It's an energetic, playful jam about two people hitting it off in a club, but choosing to enjoy the night with the friends they showed up with instead, breaking a common trope in pop music.

"We created something fun that people could dance to and knew we had the opportunity to challenge the traditional ‘boy meets and tries to convince girl’ narrative,” The Darcys’ Wes Marskell tells Billboard.

During a casual discussion about club culture and consent with their friend Leah Fay, the duo knew that a collaboration with her had the potential to be big.

“Mindless pop songwriting often perpetuates a multitude of boring and damaging gender norms that have nothing to do with real life,” Fay says. “We wanted to see if we could write a song about two empowered humans meeting in a club that wasn’t predatory on either side.”

"Just Here With My Friends" will be out everywhere tomorrow, June 22, but you can get an exclusive first listen below.
