Albanian singer Era Istrefi isn’t getting caught up in the chase on her new single “Prisoner,” releasing wide tomorrow (June 8) via Ultra Music.

Fresh off her feature on the Diplo-produced 2018 World Cup Russia official song "Live It Up" with Will Smith and Nicky Jam, Istrefi is expanding her global reach further with a single that adds a Caribbean twist to the singer’s impressive pop repertoire.

“I grew up listening to reggae records, so when I heard a demo of ‘Prisoner,’ written by Emily Warren and Scott Harris, I felt the song is so relatable to me, with just incredible melodies and lyrics I identify with,” Istrefi says. “It’s got emotional levels that take me to both happy and melancholy places, whilst being authentically reggae, which I love.”

Istrefi proves her versatility as she playfully teases out the clever cat-and-mouse wordplay from Warren and Harris, the powerhouse songwriting team behind hits from the likes of The Chainsmokers, Shawn Mendes and more. For a rising artist that seems to be testing out every corner of her potential, Istrefi has shown once again that her creative drive cannot be contained.
