Former America’s Got Talent winner and singing sensation Grace VanderWaal has secured the lead role in Disney’s Stargirl, one of the first original films to premiere on the company’s upcoming streaming service, as confirmed by Billboard.

As was first reported by Deadline, the “Clearly” artist will make her acting debut in the Julia Hart-directed movie, which will begin filming Sept. 24. “I knew she was Stargirl almost immediately,” Hart said. “The world knows what a talented performer she is, and I cannot wait for everyone to see just how many sides there are to this special and magical young woman.”

After winning the hearts of AGT judges at age 12 and now movie producers at 14, the 2017 Billboard Women in Music Rising Star award recipient will play the protagonist Stargirl Caraway from Jerry Spinelli’s 2000 novel, who coincidentally sings and plays “Happy Birthday” on her ukulele to kids at school -- the same instrument she played for Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell on the competition show where she was discovered.
