Alae Fall 'Stone Cold' Crazy in Love in New Video: Exclusive

Steve Dykes

New Zealand upstarts Alae have gotten everyone hooked on love in the video for their latest single “Stone Cold,” available today (April 20) exclusively on Billboard.

The Auckland three-piece comprised of Allister Meffan, Alex Farrell-Davey and Jayden Lee combines the sultriness of R&B with the broad appeal of pop for a slick yet sincere sound. It’s the perfect pairing for a song that aims to embody the intoxicating intimacy of new companionship.

“The song’s all about love and it’s drug-like qualities,” Farrell-Davey tells Billboard. “When [director] Connor Pritchard presented us his trippy music video treatment, it’s fair to say we were pumped to get it out in to the world.”

The video follows the song’s moody and mysterious emotional flow, starting with its subdued color palette and sprawling exterior shots that build into surreal splendor as the metaphorical medicine starts to take effect.

The visuals and overarching theme are tied together nicely with a serendipitous and quite literal connection through the music as a final testament that “Stone Cold” gives just the right dose to fall in love.
