Maroon 5’s collaboration with Julia Michaels, “Help Me Out,” is an airy, heartfelt highlight off the group’s latest album Red Pill Blues — but it wouldn't have been anything if Diplo hadn't gotten involved.
The group's frontman Adam Levine reveals that the unlikely creative matchmaker for "Help" was the super-producer, who cold-texted the singer a demo of Michaels performing the song. "I was blown away," Levine recalls. "It was one of the coolest demos I'd ever heard." Once the two got together, the song (originally just sung by Michaels) became a duet, which Levine suggests helped the track soar.
