Before the fame, Jason Derulo dreamed about being recognized as a professional singer and dancer. In fact, everything started when he was 4 years old and he saw Michael Jackson performing on TV.  “At that moment, I told my mom, ‘I want to be just like him,’” Derulo told Billboard during an exclusive interview.

Derulo’s wish came true, and now he wants to share his story with everybody. On Monday afternoon, Derulo went back to where he spent most of his time as a child to share that story: the Boys and Girls Club in Hollywood, Florida.

Derulo’s visit was more than remembering childhood memories. He went to motivate and teach the kids the new dance moves to “Colors,” his new song and 2018 Coca-Cola FIFA World Cup anthem. During the event, Derulo was joined by Jeremy Strong (Justin Bieber, Usher, Ciara, Flo Rida), who taught the choreography to around 200 children and prepared them to be part of the “Colors” official video.

The song, written by Derulo, was released via Warner Bros. Records on Friday. “It’s the kind of song that we needed,” he said. “I feel that everybody should be proud of where they are from and who they are.”
