Clairo, the moniker of 19-year-old singer/songwriter Claire Cottrill, made a hefty career stride with the official music video release for her dreamy single “Flaming Hot Cheetos” on Monday. The track will be featured on her forthcoming six-song debut EP, scheduled to drop later this year.

Although “Flaming Hot Cheetos” is Cottrill’s first music video to utilize a film crew, it technically isn’t the only one from the Syracuse University freshman. She rose to internet fame last summer with the her track “Pretty Girls,” for which she DIYed her own music video on a webcam in her bedroom. Now, her buzzing success has taken her beyond YouTube and SoundCloud, landing her a gig opening for Tyler, The Creator in January and a slot on the Mo Pop Music Festival lineup this July.

As one might expect, the first half of the “Flaming Hot Cheetos” video features Cottrill moseying around a retro diner parking lot among a group of dancers dressed as -- what else? -- the namesake spicy snack. The party later moves inside the diner, with Cottrill surrounded by friends and fellow bedroom pop starlets. Her soothing, lo-fi vocals chant a nostalgic ode to a former romance as she struts and sways behind the bar in the glow of neon signs. Backed by an uncomplicated beat and twee synth chords, the entrancing video is just the beginning of eccentric delights to come from Clairo.
