Carrie Underwood and Ludacris Define Every Type of 'Champion' in New Music Video
Carrie Underwood teams with rapper Ludacris to deliver their powerful new video for “The Champion,” giving the single corresponding visuals that honor an encompassing range of athletes, students and soldiers alike.
The country singer loudly declares “I’m invincible” on the song’s chorus, as a montage of different embodiments of “champions” fill the screen, covering all demographics and occupations. There’s especially strong allusions to female empowerment, with clips of shark attack survivor and surfer Bethany Hamilton appearing next to images of the #MeToo movement.
Underwood makes appearances herself, both in the studio recording the song, as well as on a running trail, and even in footage from her vintage 2005 American Idol season 4 audition. She even more recently had to overcome some adversity in her own life, after falling in her home in November, resulting in nearly forty stitches in her face, as well as wrist surgery.
The song officially debuted during Super Bowl LII last month. Watch the video below.
