The release recalls follows their initial English-language foray, "Someday We'll Know," their most popular song on Spotify. With five singles to hit No. 1 on iTunes Japan, a Best Newcomer nomination at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan, not to mention a newly signed deal with British record label XVII Music Group, FAKY's international footprint looks poised to grow bigger with this deliciously punchy, slightly trappy pop anthem.
Listen to the new version of "Candy" here first:
"'Candy' is the first song we ever recorded together so it's very special to us," the band's New Zealand–born member Anna tells Billboard of the particular importance of this release. "It's also the catchiest song out of the whole album, and such a fun one to perform, too."
Made up of Anna, Mikako, Akina and Lil' Fang, FAKY has been experimenting with new and global sounds in their international expansion, currently in the studio with British producers like DJ Fresh (whose Rita Ora collaboration "Hot Right Now" was nominated for the BRIT Awards' British Single of the Year) and Commands (who's worked with Charli XCX and Anne Marie), with more collaborations reported to be on the way. The reworked "Candy" single is available on all digital platforms on Friday, Feb. 16.
