The carefully curated boy band In Real Life hit the stage at Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday night (Feb. 7) to perform their song “Eyes Closed,” complete with, of course, perfectly synchronized dance moves and a surprising closing rap verse.

The group, composed of the five teens who won ABC’s Boy Band competition, the reality show that mentored up-and-coming young group acts with help from Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter, the Spice Girls’ Emma Bunton, and famed producer Timbaland as judges.

Their performance on Kimmel’s show comes a few months after their September signing to Johnny Wright’s Wright Entertainment Group (WEG), which is famous for birthing fellow boy bands like New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, and *NSYNC. As for the staying power of boy bands in 2018, based on their high-energy performance on Kimmel, In Real Life could serve as a good basis for the future of young pop groups.
