Since her split from Fifth Harmony back in December of 2016, Camila Cabello has been a go-to for gossip and tabloid magazines looking to exploit every and any bit of drama that came with her departure from the now four-member girl group. But looking past the drama of Fifth Harmony reveals there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to Ms. Cabello.

In the days leading up to and following the release of her debut album Camila last Friday (Jan. 12), the “Never Be The Same” singer has revealed tons of facts about herself, from information about her family life to who her dream collaboration would be in interviews with The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Glamour Magazine and NPR.

She loves Sex and the City (The New York Times)

Cabello is a fan of the popular HBO comedy, telling the New York Times, “in my heart I’m a Carrie, but sadly I think I act like a Charlotte” during their interview. 

She has no plans to tour at the moment (The New York Times)

An old teacher of Cabello’s asked her whether or not she would be going on tour soon, to which the “Havana” crooner said she was in no rush, and just desired to be a kid for the moment. 

She was a very shy child (The New York Times)

Cabello’s mother told the Times that her daughter would regularly burst into tears at family parties with large crowds and loud music, stating, “she was so shy, so shy,” before adding, “we didn’t even think music was a possibility for her.”

“In the Dark” is about someone famous (Rolling Stone)

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Cabello tells the outlet that her Camila song “In the Dark” had been written the day after the Grammys, and is about an encounter she had with a famous boy she met at an after party. 

"She Loves Control" is her favorite song of Camila (NPR)

Cabello told NPR's Michel Martin that "She Loves Control" is her favorite track off of Camila, explaining, "I think that in that point of my life I just felt really free and independent, and I was having a blast making this album and thinking about all of the stuff I wanted to do for it and coming up with all of the world around it... It was very refreshing for me to have that control."

She and Ed Sheeran want to do a Spanish song together (Glamour Magazine)

Speaking of Sheeran, Cabello expressed her love for the star singer-songwriter, and described how they are currently emailing one another about doing a song in Spanish together. “I’ve asked him to send me guitar ideas that we can start writing to,” she said. “We’re going to make it happen -- it’s going to happen!"

She has two dream collaborators (Glamour Magazine)

"I think Drake or Kendrick Lamar would be dope,” she told Glamour Magazine of her collab wishlist. "I love hip-hop, I’ve been listening to a lot of it while making the album. There are definitely influences in the production, for sure."

Simon Cowell was an “amazing” mentor (Glamour Magazine)

Cabello described Cowell as “amazing” and “super supportive” of her, and that he was excited for her new music. Some advice he gave to Cabello was “just make sure that it’s you, because no one can make ‘you’ for you.”
