Sam Fischer, former vocalist for HOLYCHILD, pulled out all the stops to gear up for the second release of his solo career. For "Same Friends," premiering today (Nov. 10) exclusively to Billboard, Fischer teamed up with Grammy award winning producer OAK (Kehlani, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj) to blend his signature R&B-leaning vocals with a groovy beat.
Fischer explained the meaning behind "Same Friends," telling Billboard, "It’s just so hard to move on from someone when you’re constantly reminded of them because of the 'Same Friends' you share. It’s awkward trying to navigate those friendships in the aftermath of a breakup, you really see who has your back and who absolutely does not."
In the stripped down chorus, Fischer sings of these difficulties and has them echoed back to him immediately by the backup vocalists, "'Cause when we got the same friends/ Making it complicated/ Always in the same places/ Makes it hard to never see you again/ See you again." The end of the chorus finds the bare bass line meeting up with full percussion and production, amping up the mixed emotions to the next level.
