Harry Styles Reveals He Thought of the Name One Direction and 'It Kind of Stuck'

It may have been Harry Styles' mom's idea for him to audition for the U.K.'s X Factor, but it was his idea to call the group he was paired up with One Direction.

"I know they're not here to defend anything else, but it was me," Styles told CBS Sunday Morning's Tony Dokoupil in a recent interview, referring to his bandmates Niall Horan, Zayn Malik,  Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson.

"I thought it sounded good. We threw around names for a little bit, and I honestly don't know. I suggested it and everyone was like 'Yeah we like that' and then it kind of stuck, and that was what it was," he explained.

The singer answered questions about the good times he had with One Direction, who he first joined when he was a teenager -- "First of all, it's fun because you're not at school," he joked -- and spoke about his first solo album, which he released in May.

"It didn't feel scary to me," Styles said. "The idea of making something that I wasn't 100 percent behind is much scarier to me."
