Viewers Criticize Piers Morgan for Questioning Mariah Carey About Las Vegas Shooting on 'Good Morning Britain'

Good Morning Britain viewers criticized host Piers Morgan for abruptly questioning guest Mariah Carey about the mass shooting in Las Vegas that left more than 50 dead during an interview.

On Sunday night (Oct. 1) a shooter fired from a 32nd floor window at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino during the final night of the Route 91 Harvest Festival. Carey had prepared to speak with Morgan and cohost Susanna Reid about her upcoming Christmas mini-tour when news of the shooting broke. Morgan asked Carey about the incident and played footage from the scene, saying she knew the city “very well” after finishing a Vegas residency at Caesar's Palace earlier this year.

Carey, who sat perched in front of a large Christmas tree in her home, was visibly caught off guard, telling Morgan, “That’s awful. I pray for the victims and I hope all this can stop as soon as possible.”

Fans took to Twitter to criticize Morgan’s decision, calling his questions “tasteless” and insisting that Carey should have been briefed about the shooting before going on-air. Others tuned into the interview after it started and were confused as to why the singer was sitting in front of a Christmas tree as she discussed the shooting. Some fans said the show’s producers should have postponed the interview altogether.
