Camila Cabello Talks Talks Transition Into Songwriting, Creative Goals: 'If You're Not Having Fun What's the Point?'
"As I got older I discovered singer-songwriters and that's what made me want to pick up a guitar and try songwriting."
Radio Disney's most recent "Next Big Thing" Camila Cabello is featured in a new video detailing her artistic development and it is premiering exclusively here on Billboard.
In the "Journey" clip, the former Fifth Harmony member talks about her creative aspirations and her newfound love for writing: "My goals have kind of evolved," she says. "In the beginning I wanted to be a singer. I think as I got older I discovered singer-songwriters and that's what made me want to pick up a guitar and try songwriting. I just got the writing bug."
The "Havana" singer goes on to talk about her time in her former girl group. Although Cabello dropped out of 5H at the end of 2016 to pursue a solo career, the Cuban-American singer thinks of her time with the group as an extremely formative experience. "Looking back, my time with Fifth Harmony was amazing," she says. "Fifth Harmony represented this confidence and this girl power. I wouldn't be the person or the artist that I feel like I've discovered so I'm definitely super grateful for that experience."
