Rebecca Black Unveils Debut Album 'RE/BL' and 'Heart Full of Scars' Video
Rebecca Black has officially put "Friday" behind her with debut EP RE/BL and single "Heart Full of Scars" arriving on Friday (Sept. 15).
"Black continues to surprise," reads the official press release, "silencing critics and defying expectation, creating provocative pop music that explores her very personal journey from viral hate to acceptance and confidence."
The press release goes on to outline where Black has been since "Friday" went viral in 2011.
"Black, then a 13-year-old, eighth-grade student, was thrust into a media maelstorm after a novelty music video her mother paid to have produced as a gift was uploaded to YouTube and went viral, turning the song -- and her name -- into a national punchline.
"Following 'Friday,' the singer withdrew from public, eventually setting herself up on YouTube, where she developed a devoted audience who enjoyed tuning in to see Black share her life. Subscribers quickly grew to nearly 1.5 million, providing her an important outlet to talk directly to fans and try out new music. Emboldened by the support, Black worked on her songwriting and eventually headed back into the studio where she continues to write and record new music."
As a thank you to those YouTube fans, Black begins the official "Heart Full of Scars" music video with a message appearing on the screen imploring, "For my fans, let it sink in...you're enough" followed by a collage of who are presumably some of those YouTube fans. Throughout the song, Black transitions from a dark room to a bright room where people freely splatter the wall with paint.
