Selena Gomez Gets Back to Work After Kidney Transplant Announcement

Selena Gomez was the center of attention Thursday (Sept. 14) after she took to Instagram to disclose that she had a kidney transplant due to Lupus complications earlier this summer. But she appeared to be on the mend already as she was also spotted on Thursday in New York on set of her upcoming movie with Woody Allen.

The plot of the film is unknown, but Gomez, 25, was pictured wearing a casual T-shirt and jeans outfit on the set of the Amazon Studios film that also stars Jude Law, Diego Luna, Liev Schreiber, Timothée Chalamet, and Elle Fanning.

The post about her surgery has already racked up eight million likes. This is not the first time Gomez has been vocal about her struggle with the auto immune disease Lupus. In 2015, she told Billboard that she had undergone chemotherapy for Lupus. In 2016, she canceled part of her tour to focus on her mental health due to Lupus complications.

I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made. People reported that a source said Gomez's boyfriend, The Weeknd, scheduled his performances around her transplant surgery this summer, though that information was not confirmed at press time.

Gomez has also been active in New York City this week for New York Fashion Week, even spending hours on Wednesday (Sept. 13) at Fifth Avenue's Coach House meeting with her fans.
