Selena Gomez's Friend Francia Raísa Shares Statement Following Kidney Transplant News

Selena Gomez's announcement Thursday (Sep. 14) that she received a kidney transplant from her friend Francia Raísa earlier this summer has attracted an outpouring of love and support from Selena's fans, friends, and Raísa herself.

After Gomez shared a post on her Instagram recounting her difficult decision to undergo the procedure as a result of her lupus, Raísa shared a message of her own about how the procedure has strengthened both of them and their relationship forever. She also took the opportunity to boost lupus awareness.

"I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not only saved a life, but changed mine in the process," Raísa wrote with her post, showing her and Gomez next to each other in hospital beds. "This was part of our story, and we will share it soon, but what is important now is that this is not the only story."

Raísa, an actress herself, met Gomez a decade ago when Disney and ABC Family had the stars of their shows visit the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. They clicked and have been friends ever since. They frequently call each other their "sister," and have always been supportive of each other in their respective careers. And now, that sisterly love is stronger than ever before.
