Charli XCX Cancels Summersonic Appearance: 'I Have Been Seriously Ill'
Singer has been battling tonsillitis and fever.
Charli XCX was determined to play the Summersonic Festival in Japan on Friday (Aug. 18), but per doctor's orders she had to pull out. In a note to her fans posted on Saturday (Aug. 19), the singer apologized for having to drop out of her two scheduled performances at the massive event due to illness. "I am so sad to say that I have to cancel my shows at summersonic in Japan," she wrote. "I have been seriuosly ill for the past couple of days with really bad tonsillitis and fever. I haven't been able to leave my hotel room at all."
The "Boys" singer revealed that she'd passed out while going through security in Beijing and had been getting antibiotics since but was still not feeling better. " I can't even explain to you how excited I was to be in Japan," she continued. "I love performing here and I had extended my trip to work in the studio on a load of other projects too."

A spokesperson for Charli could not be reached at press time for further comment on her condition. The singer's next scheduled tour date is Aug. 24 at Richfield Avenue in Reading, England. She recently released an all-star video for "Boys" featuring cameos from Kaytranada, Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, D.R.A.M., Aminé, Ty Dolla $ign, Stormzy, Riz Ahmed, Joe Jonas, Chromeo, Joey Bada$$, Diplo, The Libertines’ Carl Barat, Charlie Puth, Panic! at the Disco’s Brendon Urie, Wiz Khalifa, will.i.am, Mark Ronson, Jack Antonoff and others.
