When actor Algee Smith isn’t busy playing musicians on screen -- like Ralph Tresvant in The New Edition Story, or starring in highly anticipated upcoming films like Detroit -- he is working on his own music. In Smith’s creative new music video for his lovelorn track “Girl” (directed by Dylan Bergstrom and Lex Lewter), the recording artist invites us into a comic-book-like animation of his world as he expresses to a certain girl that he just cannot get her out of his head.

Of the song, Smith said, “It's about me explaining to this woman in my life that I only have her on my mind." He continued, "I wrote it, alongside Natt Dunn, because the track just gave us that energy. It felt as if that's what was meant to go over that type of music. Everything from the cadence to the melody."

In the artistic video, Smith is shown as a stop-motion paper cut-out and he appears to be stuck in a fantasy. And because his feelings for this girl are too strong, the only way to escape reality without her is to revert into his mind.

"This video was so great to shoot because it was fun, high energy the whole time. The directors Lex Lewter & Dylan Bergstrom really helped create a visual that makes you want to keep paying attention and I went for this creative because I wanted something out of the box, not just a regular type of video,” said Algee.
