Saint Mesa, 'Maderas'

With the upbeat vibes singer-songwriter Saint Mesa brings through his music, one would never think he had to overcome some extreme adversity before becoming a musician. After fighting a rare disease in his early teens, the Mission Viejo, California native (whose real name is Danny McCook) began writing songs in the hospital -- now 21 years old and sickness-free, he's able to completely express himself through his music, which most recently includes his new track "Maderas," out today (June 2).

Starting out with a pounding synth, the summery track eventually brings up the speed for the chorus and simply makes you want to groove. McCook brings in a ukulele for the second verse, and suddenly the song has so many layers that it's hard not to tap your toes and smile to the happy tune.

In line with the free-spirit vibe of the danceable track, McCook explains that lyrically "Maderas" is about "letting yourself be free, and not fighting freedom when you find or experience it." With or without listening to the lyrics, the bouncy drum beat makes it pretty easy to feel free while jamming to this tune.
