1 AMVRKA Rallies the Working Class With 'American Muscle' Video: Exclusive Premiere

Emi Ayala

Los Angeles-based duo 1 AMVRKA (pronounced “One America”) have set out to bring some light to the country amid its rather tough political climate, creating music with meaningful and a blend of hip-hop, folk-rock, country and pop. Their latest song, "American Muscle," does just that and Billboard is exclusively premiering its video below.

In the new clip, singer Jesse Scott and multi-instrumentalist Rudy Maya powerfully present their song through black-and-white visuals showing only silhouettes of the duo as they sing and drum the tune. Through this minimalism, lyrics such as "Sometimes you gotta hustle, American Muscle" and, particularly, Scott's spoken word section about bettering ourselves as a country really make an impact.

"'American Muscle' is an ode to the working class," Maya tells Billboard. "We tried to create a battle cry in the form of a chant for all those who proudly show up to work, despite how tired or under-appreciated they may feel. This is for them."

"American Muscle" is the second song 1 AMVRKA has released from their forthcoming debut EP, which will be released later this summer on WLDFIRE/Capitol Records.
