Shawn Mendes Announces New Single, 'There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back'

Shawn Mendes has been teasing out hints about what's next for him over the past 24 hours. The slow reveal began with a moody blue-tinged picture of the singer playing guitar with the message "There's Nothing #HoldinMeBack" on Monday morning (Apr. 17), followed by another wavy blue background with the whole phrase floating in white.

Billboard can now confirm that the phrase is the title of Mendes' new single, which will drop at midnight on Thursday (Apr. 20). The song was written by Mendes, his "Stitches" co-writer Teddy Geiger, "Treat You Better" co-writer Scott Harris and "Crazy" co-writer Geoff Warburton; Geiger also produced the song.

"The minute I wrote this song I knew I wanted to get it out before my tour started, to give fans something new and fresh in addition to everything from Illuminate," Mendes said in a statement. "I can't wait to perform it on the tour, and for everyone to hear it. It's equal parts what is amazing about this album, and what I'm so excited for about the music I have coming up next."
