MisterWives Debut Post-Apocalyptic 'Machine' Video: Exclusive

Mary Ellen Matthews

MisterWives is making a statement with the music video for their latest single, “Machine,” from their upcoming sophomore album, Connect the Dots, out May 19. Billboard premieres the fierce video today (April 3), exclusively from Photo Finish/Republic Records.

Set in an "end of the world”-like situation, the indie band dress as different characters (elephant, octopus, hummingbird, squirrel, dinosaur and stag) in the video, representing their own inner spirit animal while also fighting for what they believe in.

"The 'Machine' music video exists in a post-apocalyptic world where color and freedom to be one's true self are prohibited,” MisterWives tells Billboard exclusively. “Getting to bring to life our spirit animals in this desert dystopia where they rebel and break free from being held in captivity was something we've been itching to do since the song came to fruition. The visuals worked hand in hand with the distorted grungy and heavy tones and brought forth a very Mad MisterWives wasteland that we hope you enjoy."

Dressed in vibrant colors, elaborate costumes and hours of makeup, the group plays with the storyline while sending the important message of self-worth and self-freedom represented through the song's lyrics. “Not here to lose / Not here for you to choose how we, should be / Cause we’re not part of your machine."
