The Born Love, 'Strange Days'

"What have I done?"

Enigmatic duo The Born Love first touched down with mighty debut single "Tempest" earlier this year. Comprised of songwriting/production duo Kevin + Aron, whose credits include songs with Halsey, BANKS and Vérité, the buzzy act return today with the release of their woeful second offering, "Badlands," premiering exclusively via Billboard.

With a folk-tinged alt-pop sound that recalls Local Natives and Grouplove, the emotive cut relies on smoky vocals and delicately plucked guitar, as they lament on a waning love. But as the torch song hits its peak on the forlorn chorus, its clear a bit of heartbreak served as the muse for the all-too-relatable radio-ready gem.

"In many ways, 'Badlands' is a song about rebirth or reawakening, about feeling lost and yet propelled forward by something at the same time," they tell Billboard. "It's about trusting your own compass and holding true to your dreams when it matters most. It seems fitting that this song represents the tangible creation of The Born Love. It came together early on, long before we knew its meaning or purpose. Though it sat dormant for a few years, we kept coming back to it as a beacon of inspiration."
