Lance Bass Says *NSYNC Reuniting For Walk of Fame Ceremony, Releasing 'Home for Christmas' Vinyl
Update: According to NSYNC's Twitter account, reports of the group's reunion may be premature, as they tweeted "We always appreciate the love and excitement from our fans unfortunately Lance’s comments to the press were taken out of context... When there is real news from *NSYNC you will hear it from all of us." No word from the group yet of what exactly was taken out of context, or whether or not all five members will in fact be appearing when they receive their Walk of Fame star.
*NSYNC are reuniting. But before you get too excited, it's just for one day and they won't be performing. The group's Lance Bass told Entertainment Tonight that the boys have big plans to celebrate a special 20th anniversary, including a vinyl reissue and their first official appearance together since they joined Justin Timberlake onstage at the MTV VMAs in 2013.
"We're doing something [special], I don't know if I can announced it yet," Bass said. "We're coming out with a really cool vinyl edition of our Christmas album because it's coming up on the 20 years of that album," he said of 1998's Home for Christmas. "And then we're going to be getting our star on the [Hollywood] Walk of Fame this year at some point."
And then he dropped the bombshell. "We'll all be there!" he said. "We just have to decide on a date. We're terrible at planning things." Saying that getting all five guys together is never easy, Bass said the reunion might come around Christmas time. "It'll be fun to see everybody again." You might recall that *NSYNC -- Timberlake, Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone and JC Chasez -- went on "hiatus" in 2002 and though it seems unlikely that they'll ever return from their 15-plus year break, Bass said they've remained very close.
"We talk daily... all five of us," he said. "I would have to shoot you if you saw the stuff we wrote to each other. We bag on each other all day long... Those guys are my brothers and so we act like immature brothers all the time."
Though he said their bond is unbreakable, one thing they don't appear to see eye-to-eye on is the reason the group split. Last week, Timberlake told The Hollywood Reporter that he decided to leave *NSYNC after seven years because he wanted to focus on music, not playing giant stadiums. "It started as a fun snowball fight that was becoming an avalanche," he said. "I felt like I cared more about the music than some of the other people in the group. And I felt like I had other music I wanted to make and that I needed to follow my heart."
Bass gets it, but he respectfully disagreed with JT, saying everyone in the group wanted to make great music. "I mean, I don't think it's true," he told ET. "Obviously, we cared about the music, but I understand where he's coming from for sure... I think what he was talking about was on the Pop Odyssey Tour. It was a crazy time and it felt like it was everything but the music. It was all about the spectacle."
