UPDATE: Just a week after The Revolution's initial tour dates were announced, the group has added dates to its forthcoming Spring jaunt.

"The concerns were how many dates, what would the fans want, and what do we do as a band to heal?" said guitarist Wendy Melvoin in a statement. “We’ve been really quiet, and we did that consciously, because we were grieving and didn’t want to be disrespectful. But the fans wanted the chance to feel the energy so we just want to give it back letting them experience what we were as a band for Prince," adds Wendy.

“Prince said that music is medicine,” drummer Bobby Z adds. “People need it, and we need it, and we can make it as authentic as we can. In honor of him, we’ll give it everything we’ve got.”

The Revolution have announced a short string of upcoming tour dates for the end of April, with tickets going on sale this Friday (Feb. 10).

The iconic backing band for Prince -- comprised of the group's Purple Rain-era lineup; guitarist Wendy Melvoin, bassist Brownmark (Mark Brown), keyboardists Matt Fink and Lisa Coleman, and drummer Bobby Z (Robert Rivkin) -- gradually came together between the years 1978 and 1983, and toured and recorded with the artist until 1986. They performed at a Prince tribute in Minneapolis last fall, and are also scheduled to perform at Celebration 2017, a three-day event taking place at Prince's Paisley Park compound from April 20-23.

All five members of the group recently spoke with Billboard about their experiences working with Prince and highlights from those years. In that interview, BrownMark said, "there’s this surge of fans wanting to see us perform. And we want to share it with the world -- that is our goal."
