America's Got Talent winner Grace Vanderwaal may only be 12, but she's just weeks away from releasing her debut major label EP, Perfectly Imperfect (Dec. 2). To celebrate that monumental career moment, the ukulele-strumming tween dropped the lyric video for her first official, "I Don't Know My Name," on Friday (Nov. 18).
The video is a montage of hand-drawn photos of the singer that unfold on a series of Polaroid snaps, all of which look like the kind of notebook doodles that are fitting for the young rising star with the powerfully scratchy voice and lyrical wisdom far beyond her years. Feathering her breathy voice over the mellowed-down acoustic accompaniment, the soft-spoken ballad details the young singer's search for her identity "in an ocean of people". She begins her journey by saying "I don't know my name, I don't play by the rules of the game" but later discovers what she's been searching for. "I now know my name, I don't play by the rules of the game/ So you say, I'm not trying," she belts as she closes out the song. "But I'm trying to find my way."
