XYLO Inspired by the 'Political Circus' for New 'Fool's Paradise' Video: Exclusive Premiere

For some artists, breaking big translates to unimaginable success and carefree living; for L.A.-based duo XYLO, it means the ability to make a statement. In the video for their latest track “Fool’s Paradise,” the pair, comprised of siblings Chase and Paige Duddy, takes aim at the current political climate in the U.S. and the potential undoing of the country.

XYLO Takes 'America' to Cinematic Heights With Orchestral Performance

The song, which just hit 1 million streams on Spotify, follows in the footsteps of XYLO’s 2015 viral hit “America,” in which the country’s current events pushed the band to social commentary. However, “Fool’s Paradise” takes the gloomy message of the former and injects a welcome dose of aggression with scathing lyrics and a rhythm section that ceaselessly charges on. The composition makes the song feel more vital, and the stakes more dire.

“‘Fool's Paradise’ was influenced by our country's current political circus,” the band says. “We wanted to create a music video that sets a jarring and moody tone which reflects some of our frustrations with government."

The History of 'The Star Spangled Banner'

The video, directed by Joseph Carlin, matches the song’s theme with a desolate setting and dystopian imagery. The visual allusions are perfectly fitting with interspersed shots of surveillance cameras, barbed-wire fences, and footage of social unrest. The brightest spot in the video comes from the band, which performs in front of a large American flag. It’s an especially poignant image, with a song as loaded as this, that the flag still has such a prevailing presence.

The band is currently gearing up for a tour with New Zealand electro-pop act The Naked and Famous, starting Oct. 26 in Portland, Oregon. Tickets and more information can be found on their website here
