Barbra Streisand & Hugh Jackman Talk 'Any Moment Now' Duet: Watch
Barbra Streisand likes things to be just so. Which is why when it came to pick the collaborators for her upcoming duets album, ENCORE: Movie Partners Sing Broadway, she was very careful about who she invited into the studio. On a roster that features a few actors not necessarily known for their voices, the least surprising name is a veteran of Broadway and screen crooning, Hugh Jackman, who tangles with Babs on the ballad "Any Moment Now."
In a just-released behind-the-scenes video of their sessions, Streisand explains why she chose the Les Miserables veteran to play across from her on the first song she chose for the collection.
"Being an actress, I like to sing songs that give me something to act," Streisand says of the Marvin Hamlisch-penned tune from the play Smile about a couple who can't get on the same page. "I heard the song and I thought, 'this is a way for me to use actors who act and sing with Broadway material.'"
And that is why Jackman was her first choice. "I was like, 'I don't know how on earth this has happened,'" the Wolverine star says about the email requesting his presence in the studio. The album also features songs with Alec Baldwin ("The Best Thing That Ever Has Happened"), Antonio Banderas ("Take Me To The World"), Jamie Foxx ("Climb Ev'ry Mountain"), Seth MacFarlane ("Pure Imagination"), Melissa McCarthy ("Anything You Can Do"), Chris Pine ("I'll Be Seeing You"/ "I've Grown Accustomed To Your Face"), Anne Hathaway and Daisy Ridley ("At the Ballet"), Patrick Wilson ("Loving You") and the late Anthony Newley ("Who Can I Turn To (When Nobody Needs Me)?"
Streisand will kick off a nine-date tour on Tuesday (Aug. 2) with a show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
