It all started with a Skype call and an a cappella riff. San Francisco via Denver producer Bedrockk, a.k.a. Dave Marquess, was working on assembling the forthcoming Archive compilation for his San Francisco based label DIRTY//CLEAN, when he received an a cappella vocal take from Dominican singer Lyrique.

Linked via Don DiNapoli of iStandard, a group that connects producers, artists and creators worldwide, the duo's sonic chemistry was instantly electric, as they began collaborating over Skype on a unique sound that blends elements of Marquess' San Francisco with Lyrique's homebase, the Dominican capital of Roseau.

Today, they share their first collaboration, a sleek dancehall rework of '90s house classic "Show Me Love" by Robin S., exclusively via Billboard.

"I approached the production so it would have a classic, anthemic feel, while also incorporating colorful synth work along with a more minimal drum-driven club aesthetic," Marquess tells Billboard. "Lyrique's voice is crazy, very soulful and dynamic. She had to take breaks from recording sometimes because there were monsoon storms going on in Roseau. This was our attempt at capturing the fierce nature of a tropical storm filtered through the lens of a club track."
