Ariana Grande's Best Fangirl Moments, From Madonna to Jim Carrey, Bruno Mars & More
Even though Ariana Grande is one of the world's biggest pop stars with legions of fans' support, the 23-year-old hasn't lost respect for her own influences and contemporaries. That's all to say, she's still a fan herself.
As we draw closer to Billboard's Hot 100 Festival, where we'll be stanning for Ari, here are a few of our favorite moments where Grande herself was a fangirl.
Madonna, January 2016
Grande joined Madonna onstage in Miami for the final night of the pop icon's North American Rebel Heart tour, receiving a spanking and a plastic banana prize. Grande later posted to Instagram, "I am dead" and "I have no words," in awe of the experience.
Demi Lovato & Selena Gomez, October 2015
Grande's not above fanning out over her contemporaries as well. Late last year she was sure to give it up to Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez for their new albums, describing a frenzy of texts she sent to Lovato for her vocals on Confident.
Celine Dion, March 2015
You don't just whip out a perfect Celine Dion impersonation without plenty of practice in advance. So when Grande wowed us all with her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the understanding was she'd been studying the source material.
Bette Midler, December 2014
After Bette Midler called out Grande for looking "ridiculous" trying to be sexy, the two buried the hatchet with Midler asking for forgiveness and asking to direct Grande's next music video. Grande agreed, but only if she could play Shelly "The Barracuda," Midler's husband-stealing nemesis from The First Wives Club.
@BetteMidler i guesssss.. but only if I get to play Shelly.. Shelly the barracuda lmao happy birthday to you— Ariana Grande (@ArianaGrande) December 1, 2014
Imogen Heap, October 2014
Grande shared a home-cooked vegan meal with her "idol" Imogen Heap and got to try out some of the genre-blurring singer-songwriter's futuristic mimu gloves. She chronicled the experience on Instagram, absolutely gushing.
most surreal night of my life. thank you so much again to my favorite person on earth, and my idol for so many years @imogenheap for the sweetest, home cooked, vegan dinner and the spontaneous lesson in mimu gloves!!! there are no words to describe how much I adore you, how much I've learned from listening to your music throughout the years and how much this experience meant to me! I appreciate it so so much. thank youuu
Jim Carrey, April 2014
When Grande met her childhood crush Jim Carrey, it literally brought her to tears. "All was swell until my mom told him that my first screen name was JimCarreyFan42@aol," she tweeted later. "I wanted to die."
Bruno Mars, November 2013
Grande has probably publicly fangirled over Bruno Mars more than any other celebrity. In 2013 she described meeting him, saying she "died inside" when he complimented her ponytail. A couple months later, she posted to Twitter about another encounter with Mars backstage at the MTV Europe Music Awards: "My organs fell out. I'm a corpse. I'm dead." She added, "Pretty sure I said 'I'm throwing up' at one point."
And of course this was all predated by pining teenage tweets from 2011 such as this:
Dear Bruno Mars, I love you so much. I wouldn't mind an afternoon in the sun with you, a picnic, and some old records. Please consider. ♥— Ariana Grande (@ArianaGrande) August 29, 2011
