One Direction joined James Corden to sing a few of their hits as a part of his now-infamous "Carpool Karaoke" segment last night (Dec. 15) -- little did they know, though, that the Late Late Show host had an ulterior motive.

Things began innocently enough, with discussion of crazy fans and games of FMC (F---, Marry, Cruise), but then Corden started sharing new choreography and wardrobe concepts with the band for "No Control," and attempting to lead some a capella harmonies...and outright suggesting that he felt like their musical connection was "something special." Yes, Corden wants to be the fifth member of One Direction (and, like so many of their fans, for them not to go on hiatus).
