Adele performs onstage at The 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards at Staples Center on Feb. 12, 2012 in Los Angeles, California.

Adele just released "Hello," the first single off her upcoming third album 25, this morning -- but apparently the heartbreak-themed anthem (and if history is anything to go by, album) didn't come to the singer right away.

Adele's Comeback Song 'Hello' Has Arrived

"I did write an album about being a mum but that's pretty boring," Adele told BBC 1's Nick Grimshaw. "I scrapped that."

The singer added that becoming a parent made writing the record extra challenging. "Getting into the headspace was really difficult," she added. "Having such a break off, I kind of fell out of the habit of writing songs."

25 will be released Nov. 20.
