Nick Carter of Nick & Knight performs on stage at Vogue Theatre on Nov. 21, 2014 in Vancouver, Canada.

Nick Carter's about to put his dancing shoes on for a spin (and more than a few kick-ball-changes) on the upcoming season of Dancing With The Stars.

What encouraged him? Fellow former boy bander Joey Fatone. "I was really debating if I wanted to do it, " says the ex-Backstreet Boy. "He said, 'You'll get what you put into it.' And I'm a hard worker, so I think it'll be fun."

His younger brother Aaron also competed on the show, though not all that successfully. "My brother was on it; he's a great little dancer and entertainer so I saw it through his eyes throughout that experience," Nick told Us Weekly. "I think there's a little something inside of me that says, 'Okay, I'm going to go there and represent the Carter name and do even better than what he did!'"

Nick, who has says he "never considered" himself a great dancer, says he hopes "maybe I can become a better dancer! It'll be a great experience to learn how to ballroom dance."

That's not the only benefit to participating. "I have a tendency to get overweight pretty damn fast," he told the magazine, "so dancing has always kept me slim."
