Have you become a Shawn Mendes fan over the past year? You’re not the only one: the former Vine star has quickly fashioned a promising mainstream music career with a Top 40 hit on the Hot 100 and an upcoming tour supporting Taylor Swift. The music video for new single “Something Big” reflects that gradual accrual of supporters, as Mendes starts out the day alone, then with his pals, and then with the entire block behind his back.

Mendes leads the daytime march while taking a few quick breaks to greet his fiends and toss an alley-oop, all without breaking stride. Eventually the uptempo track reaches a football field, where Mendes strums an acoustic guitar and shows off his choreography in separate instances. Blare those horns, Canadian marching band!

Mendes’ debut single “Life of the Party” launched at No. 24 on the Hot 100 over the summer, and while that contemplative track was featured on the Shawn Mendes EP, “Something Big” leads his as-yet-untitled debut album on Island Records. His tour supporting Taylor Swift in North America begins in May, and before that, the 16-year-old will perform on the Jingle Ball tour beginning Dec. 5 in Los Angeles.
