Twitter Reveals One Direction Emojis, Launches Contest to Find World's Biggest Fans
One Direction has teamed with Twitter in a new global competition to find which countries have the boy band's biggest fans and reward them with their own One Direction Twitter emojis.
The social media campaign starts Saturday at midnight GMT (that's Friday, 7 p.m. EST), giving fans from 140 countries 24 hours to show their loyalty to 1D by using designated country hashtags ranging from #1DAF for Afghanistan to #1DZW for Zimbabwe. The live results will be posted here, with the 10 most fervent countries receiving custom designed emojis. The winners will then be able to use the same hashtags that will turn into their victorious emoji.
In advance of the fan face-off, Twitter has released six exclusive Twitter emojis featuring all four One Direction members together and individually and their new album, Made in the A.M., that's out Friday.
By using the hashtags #1D, #1DLouis, #1DHarry, #1DNiall, #1DLiam and #MadeinTheAM, the corresponding One Direction emojis will automatically appear after any tweet.
After Twitter revealed the new emojis, #1DHarry became the social network's top trending hashtag. Because, as has been pointed out many times, the emojis are pretty darn cute.
