On this week’s Hot 100 chart, “El Perdon (Forgiveness)” logs its 28th week at No. 60, as the reggaeton smash by Nicky Jam and Enrique Iglesias continues to break onto pop radio. For the 35-year-old Puerto Rican singer currently living in Colombia, “El Perdon” represents more than just a breakout single — it’s a shot at redemption for an artist whose career was derailed by drugs and alcohol a half-decade ago.

“Everything I’m doing in this moment, I’m having fun doing,” Jam told Billboard during a recent video interview. “Having that downfall on my career makes me a better person today. It makes me a person that appreciates simple things in life.”
