Watch Chvrches Cover Justin Bieber's 'What Do You Mean?'

The members of Chvrches are Justin Bieber fans! Well, they’re at least becoming Justin Bieber fans, thanks to his recent output including new smash “What Do You Mean?”. In a new BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge performance, the Scottish trio takes on the Biebs’ recent No. 1 hit with impressive tenacity. Watch below (performance starts at 2:05):

The warm, tropical vibe of Bieber’s “What Do You Mean?” gets replaced by Chvrches’ icy pop exterior, as Lauren Mayberry starts off the cover trying to catch up to the production but soon takes control of it. “We just want to have a bit of fun with it,” the band’s Martin Doherty explained. “I’m a huge fan of that tune, and [Bieber’s] recent output with Jack U as well. It’s really, really good.”

Earlier this month, “What Do You Mean?” became Bieber’s first No. 1 single on the Hot 100 chart, and precedes his next full-length, due out in November. Meanwhile, Chvrches has a tremendous new sophomore album to promote, as Every Open Eye comes out this Friday (Sept. 25).
