Frankie Premiere: Listen to 'Chaos' From the Pop Newcomer's Debut EP

We first heard about Frankie, an intriguing pop singer-songwriter from Oakland, when her single “New Obsession” first sprouted in the blogosphere, and quickly lived up to its name. “New Obsession” is featured on Frankie’s debut EP, Dreamstate, and before that RCA Records debut is released, check out the equally arresting “Chaos,” premiering exclusively on Billboard.com:

“Chaos is a color I wear well, and it looks mighty good on you,” Frankie sings over a few careful piano notes on the new track. Whereas “New Obsession” is bright and brassy, “Chaos” more pointedly displays Frankie’s songwriting and soulful voice.

“‘Chaos’ is the song that is closest to my heart on Dreamstate,” says Frankie. “It tells the vulnerable part of the love story that is tied with ‘New Obsession’, when the truth comes out and all my worries and insecurities show through.

“I really wanted the song to feel like a confession, and have minimal production so I could utilize my voice to showcase emotion in a pure and raw way,” she continues. “I love how different ‘Chaos’  is from everything else you hear on the Dreamstate and am really curious to what the reaction to it will be.”

The full Dreamstate EP comes out on Friday (Aug. 28), after Frankie officially signed to RCA last month. The singer-songwriter is expected to perform her first major-label project at select shows later this year.
