Amy Winehouse Doc Announces U.S. Release Date
Amy, the Asif Kapadia-directed Amy Winehouse documentary, announced today (May 13) that it will premiere in nationwide U.S. theaters on July 10.
But select audiences will get a chance to catch the film even sooner. As previously announced, Amy will make its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 16. On July 3, it will debut in New York, Los Angeles, and in the United Kingdom.
Amy was acquired for North American audiences by A24, and marks the company's first documentary. A press release promises "extensive unseen archive footage and previously unheard tracks" from Winehouse, who died July 23, 2011 -- almost four years prior to the film's expected release date.
Kapadia previously directed the 2010 documentary Senna, about late Formula One star Ayrton Senna. The film earned him two BAFTA awards.
Amy was produced by James Gay-Rees and worked worldwide by Focus Features International.
