Exclusive: GERMANS Premiere New Single 'Dead Bird'

Meet GERMANS -- the burgeoning musical project from New York City-based singer-songwriter Julia Kwamya. First toying with "voice memoideas back in 2011, Kwamya's sound has since evolved into a unique blend of "moody disco ethereal" pop, as she calls it. Working with producer Kurt Feldman (The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Ice Choir), GERMANS found shape in buzz worthy singles "Cruel" and "Wonderhow" back in 2013.

After spending much of last year writing and playing one-off gigs, Kwamya decided to invest time perfecting her craft, with lessons in voice, piano, bass, and Pro Tools. The result? Her new single, "Dead Bird," premiering exclusively on Billboard.

Co-produced by Kwamya herself along with Asher Zeitschik, the track is the first taste from a forthcoming GERMANS full project, aimed for release this November. Kwamya also hopes to take her completely independent project on the road later this year, with plans to support a TBD list of more established acts. "If Blondie reads this, I'm winking at them," she says.

"I wrote this at a time when everything in my life felt like it was on a continuous spin cycle," Kwamya tells Billboard of the inspiration behind the track. "I fear taking the risk to change and do something new, yet that risk is the very thing that excites and motivates me to live creatively. 'Dead Bird' is about how that fear can paralyze you, and stop you from doing the things that you really want to. When I let it consume me, I feel trapped in the labyrinth of my own mind."
