Pop stars One Direction, Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran join Simon Cowell and Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grainge among the music biz players who cracked the annual Debrett's 500 list of the most influential people in the U.K.

Also making the list are electronic music producers Calvin Harris and James Blake, Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn, Britain's major label leaders Max Lousada (Warner Music U.K.), Jason Iley (Sony), David Joseph (Universal) and Geoff Taylor, CEO of the British Phonographic Industry.

The Debrett's music list "shines a spotlight on the people who are making the most impact on this fast-changing industry, from the recording artists and record label executives, to the radio playlist-setters, music critics and the people changing the face of the music industry in the digital age."

The U.K. music industry, the publisher notes, "has undergone a transformation over the last decade, with the shift from CDs to digital downloads hugely affecting the way music is bought and sold, and file sharing impacting on retail sales. There has also been a new British invasion of the U.S., a notoriously tricky market to break for U.K. recording artists. New musicians have hit the airwaves and old sounds have been rejuvenated."

The unranked list features names from across 24 disciplines such as art, stage & screen, business & industry, sports, retail and politics.

Among the characters in broadcasting to make top 500 were presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly (aka Ant and Dec, the duo which enjoyed a brief pop music career in the '90s under the guise of PJ & Duncan), television presenter and producer Chris Evans and BB1 Controller Charlotte Moore, while comedian Russell Brand (known to millions of pop fans as Katy Perry's former husband) appeared under the literature section.
