We Sorted 12 Pop Stars Into Hogwarts Houses

Lorde performs at Austin City Limits Music Festival 2014

Lorde was pretty much born to be a 'Harry Potter' character -- but what house would she be in?

In a series of tweets on Sunday, Charli XCX expressed offense when someone told her: "If [you] were at hogwarts [you]'d definitely be in slytherin." However, after some consideration, Charli changed her mind.

Hogwarts for Pop Stars: Charli XCS Embraces Her Inner Slytherin

First, she dissed Hufflepuff, the supposed sadsack house of nice guys and loyal losers:

And then, she decided to own her Slytherin status:

In our story on the subject, we wondered if Slytherin was replacing Harry Potter's own Gryffindor as the "hot house" to get sorted into. And what house would Charli's "Fancy" collaborator Iggy Azalea go into? Well, we took care of that, sorting Iggy and 11 other pop stars into Hogwarts houses, while hopefully dispelling some old stereotypes in the process. No, really, not all Slytherins are evil!

Taylor Swift - Gryffindor. The cunning, career-oriented 2014 Billboard Woman of the Year gives us the vibe she could be president one day, and she can seem a bit cutthroat. Remember when she insinuated Tina Fey should go to hell for poking fun at her? Or her numerous musical ex takedowns? On a bad day, she could fit in Slytherin, but Gryffindors are prone to bursts of self-righteousness, too. A lion-hearted leader like Swift would be right at home in Harry Potter's house.

Iggy Azalea - Slytherin. Iggy joins her "Fancy" collaborator in Slytherin, as we'd like to issue a public service announcement that not all of its wizards are evil; they're just ambitious! Regardless of what you think about her authenticity, there's no denying she's a shrewd lady who's been very resourceful in achieving her goals.

Lorde - Ravenclaw. Every time Lorde's social-media activity goes viral, 10 points for Ravenclaw! She's intensely intellectual, wise beyond her years, and eccentric in a way that goes beyond being an old soul. Lorde is the quintessential Ravenclaw.

Kanye West - Slytherin. Now remember: Not all Slytherins are evil, though we have a feeling he would proudly wear the colors of Hogwarts' most infamous house. In case you haven't seen his live show lately (or Googled "Kanye West rant"), he's pretty sure he's transcended music and cites inspiration from Steve Jobs, Walt Disney and Picasso. Insanely ambitious, uncompromising and with an evil streak, 'Ye was born for Slytherin.

Sam Smith - Hufflepuff. When Sam Smith wrote the lyrics to "Stay With Me," he basically wrote the house anthem for loyal old Hufflepuff. "Oh, won't you stay with me? 'Cause you're all I need!" And never forget Cedric Diggory!

Justin Bieber - Gryffindor. Hogwarts' house credos tend to focus on positive traits, so let's forget about Bieber's hedonism for the moment. In a more positive light, Gryffindor's bravery to the point of recklessness could explain Bieber's love of skateboarding, drag racing and, you know, music.

Drake - Hufflepuff. Drake's all about sincere, heart-on-sleeve loyalty -- to his women, his crew, his favorite sports teams. Even if it's to a few of each at the same time, rest assured there's more than enough Drake emotion to go around. He'd wear every single chain, even when he's in the (Hufflepuff) house.

Grimes - Ravenclaw. As Lorde shows, Ravenclaw is the place for artists who are all about intellectual Tumblr posts. But aside from her musings on gender, art and personal politics, Claire Boucher's music makes her a perfect Ravenclaw. The house's magicians were known to experiment with non-traditional types of magic; Grimes' Roc Nation-endorsed DIY pop is basically a genre onto itself.

Beyoncé - Gryffindor. Courage, chivalry, determination... if the music industry needed a wizard to save it like Harry Potter, it would probably be Beyoncé. She's a perfect fit for Hogwarts' most heroic house, which is also known for occasional short tempers, as Solange would attest.

Katy Perry - Gryffindor. "Baby you're a firework… and you're gonna hear me roar!" When you've written as many motivational, self-help hits as Katy, there's nowhere to go but the land of the brave.

Shakira - Ravenclaw. Shakira is a member of Mensa, with an IQ of 140, and also speaks four languages. For that eccentric side that Ravenclaw covets, how about the "She Wolf" dance and lyrics like, "The stars make love to the universe"?

Jay Z - Slytherin. Shrewd, resourceful and ambitious to no end, Jay Z joins his Watch the Throne collaborator in Slytherin house. "A certain disregard for the rules" was also noted by Albus Dumbledore as an old Slytherin trait; remember Magna Carta Holy Grail and a little deal with Samsung?
