Grimes Admits She Lied About the Origin of Her Name

In 2014, Claire Boucher -- who records under the moniker Grimes -- teased us with the prospect of a new album after signing with Roc Nation the previous year and being generally awesome. Alas, all she delivered was one song (the Blood Diamonds collab “Go”) but she stayed in the spotlight via her conversation-starting internet voice.

Recently, she went off on a little story about how she came to call herself Grimes. It doesn’t have to do with the grumpy, deceased Simpsons character Frank Grimes, as previously reported. Actually, she pulled it from the U.K. hip-hop sub genre “grime” from a MySpace menu. But how did it become plural? Check out her dialogue below:
